# Frequently asked questions

## What is ondiscute?

ondiscute is a live chat organised in rooms called salons. Anyone can join an open salon or create their own, public or private, in seconds, from a web browser.

## Is it free?

Yes. ondiscute is free, with no ads and no subscription.

## Do I need an account?

No. You just pick a nickname and accept the charter. No email address is required.

## How do I create a room?

On the home page, type a name for your salon, choose public or private, then “Open the salon”. You become its moderator.

## What is the difference between a public and a private salon?

A public salon is listed among the open salons. A private salon is not listed anywhere: only people who have its link can join.

## How long does a salon stay open?

Salons created by visitors are temporary: they close automatically after 30 minutes with nobody inside. Official salons are always open.

## How do I report a message?

Every message has a “Report” button. Reports are reviewed by the moderation team, who can delete the message and remove its author.

## What happens to my messages?

They stop being displayed after 30 days. A conversation log is kept for one year to handle abuse, then deleted.

## Is ondiscute open to young people?

Yes, ondiscute is open to everyone. To protect younger users: no sexual content, phone numbers and emails hidden automatically, swear words replaced, a Report button on every message and a 🆘 button to block someone instantly and alert the team.

## What if someone makes me uncomfortable?

Press 🆘 “Not OK?” at the top of the salon: instant advice and helplines, block the person everywhere — even if they change nickname — and alert the moderators.
