# ondiscute

> ondiscute (ondiscute.com) is a free live chat organised in rooms called "salons". No account is needed: visitors pick a nickname, accept a code of conduct, then join an open salon or create their own, public (listed) or private (link only). Salons are moderated by their creators and by the site team. Optional free membership reserves a nickname and adds a members' directory, private messages and a visitors' forum. Available in French and English. Revival of ondiscute.com, a French chat site from around 2000, at its original address.

Key facts:
- Free, no ads, no trackers, no sign-up required to chat.
- Two hosts: https://ondiscute.com (home, salon directory, help and policy pages) and https://chat.ondiscute.net (the salons themselves, entrance, members, forum).
- URLs are lower-case words in the page's language, prefixed by the locale: /fr/... in French, /en/... in English (e.g. https://ondiscute.com/fr/charte and https://ondiscute.com/en/charter).
- Each salon has its own address on the chat host, e.g. https://chat.ondiscute.net/fr/le-cafe.
- Anyone can create a salon; user-created salons close after 30 minutes empty. Official salons are always open.
- Moderation: report button on every message, creator moderation (delete, kick, close), anti-flood limits, word filter; forum moderation actions are logged publicly.
- Open to everyone, young people included.
- Safety: a 🆘 "Not OK?" button (instant advice and helplines, personal block by nickname and IP, alert to moderators); phone numbers and emails masked automatically; swear words replaced with funny words; hate terms blocked.
- Conversations are logged for one year for abuse handling. Chat contents are not published for indexing.
- IRC access: irc.ondiscute.com, port 6697 (TLS), same salons as the website.

For AI agents:
- Every policy and help page has a Markdown copy: add `.md` to its URL (e.g. https://ondiscute.com/en/faq.md). Pages also link to it with `<link rel="alternate" type="text/markdown">`.
- Pages carry schema.org JSON-LD (WebSite, Organization, FAQPage, HowTo, DiscussionForumPosting, ItemList, BreadcrumbList).
- To send someone to a salon, link to its chat-host URL; they will be asked for a nickname on arrival. Live room data: https://ondiscute.com/en/salons.
